As a teenager, I vividly remember being warned to stop chewing gum because it would harden my jawline. Panicking that I would lose the feminine softness to my face, I stopped chewing.
Yet, here we are in 2022, and both women and men are getting fillers, Botox, fat-dissolving injections and plastic surgery to achieve that clearly defined jawline.
Beauty standards have changed over time and the young, soft face that was once-admired has evolved into one of toned, defined features that show prominently through a photograph.
For men, this look comes off more masculine and chiseled. Just considering some of the most desirable celebrities, they all have that sexy, chiseled jawline: Henry Cavill, Brad Pitt, David Beckham.
So how can you achieve that look without going under the knife?
Here are 5 ways to grow your jawline muscles and get a more defined jawline!
1. Chew gum
Just like I was told as a teen, chew gum and you’ll give your jaw muscles a workout that will harden your jawline.
Regular gum will take a lot more work and may end up with minimal results at best.
Consider a different option instead, like hard chewing gum that was made especially for sharpening the jaw.
With a harder chewing gum, you should see an improved jaw within a few weeks. Just make sure to take a before and after pic so you can really see the impact!
2. Do jawline exercises
There are numerous simple jawline exercises you can do to affect different parts of your jawline, from the sag underneath the chin to your jaw muscles.
Like any exercise, this tactic takes commitment. Daily sets of exercises need to be done and repeated for many weeks until there is a visible difference in the jawline.
However, it’s a healthy alternative to injections.
3. Eat a healthy diet
It’s no secret that our face shows excess weight quite fast, especially in women.
By eating a healthier, balanced diet, you can change the shape around your jawline, making it more defined.
Eat the right amount of fat, carbs, vitamins and proteins to trim down the jawline fat. The best foods to reduce face fat are those rich in Vitamin D, Omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamin B-12.
4. Gentlemen, grow a beard
Beards can help get a more defined and chiseled look to the jawline. Of course, it’s all in how it’s grown and styled.
A light shade will help accentuate your jawline to look darker and more defined.
A longer beard that is trimmed properly can fool the eye into thinking the face is more chiseled and elongated. Just make sure the cut is not rounded out.
Coloring it so it’s a uniform, dark color can also help add definition.
5. Contouring
Contouring tricks can help shape your facial structure. It will add shadows to your face to really accentuate those angles.
Nowadays, both men and women do this and there are many tutorials online on how to apply contouring makeup.
Applying some bronzer or contouring cream to the edges of your face will do the trick!
